Whether your political beliefs are left, right, undecided or somewhere in the middle, this week’s UK general elections are set to be a great watch. With the race too close to call, we at Judy HQ have found ourselves quite swept away with the campaign trail, counting down the days till polling day on May 7th.

While we’ll be keeping our voting choice to ourselves, one thing we do love to share is of course, our love of political fashion. Vivid colours, strong tailoring and bold structures are all a vital part of power dressing, and something that is easily to achieve for yourself by following our simple steps…

While the male politician is normally consigned to a choice of black, blue, grey or brown suit, female politicians have often been known for their ability to pull off every colour of the rainbow. A good skirt suit is the perfect way to power dress with pride. Bonus points for matching shoes, neck scarf and of course, some serious shoulderpads. Our Judy’s traders are well stocked up with fab two pieces – now you just have to decide on your favourite hue!

Show off your pearly whites
Nothing says ‘don’t mess with me’ like a simple string of pearls. Classy and elegant, simple accessories complement a political outfit without seeming fussy or too informal. Power dressing is all about clean, structural lines, so keep things to a minimum – one necklace and one set of earrings maximum.

Getting shirty
For men and women, a well pressed shirt is the foundations upon which a smart outfit can be built. Historically, a rolled up sleeve on the campaign trail indicates a level of ‘normal man on the street’, but a similar flash of personality can be just as easily achieved by a statement pussybow collar or interesting pattern. The Vintage Kilo Sale is a great place to rummage for unique button-downs – just remember, a jazzy print should always be dressed down with a smart suit!
